Unusual fire and explosion hazards: None known
Extinguisher media: Water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide or foam as appropriate for surrounding fire and materials.
Special fire fighting measures: As with all fires, evacuate personnel to a safe area. Fire fighters should use self-contained breathing equipment and protective clothing.
8. HEALTH HAZARDS
Routes of entry: Inhalation, skin, accidental ingestion, skin injection.
Threshold limit value: None established. There are no components with workplace exposure limits.
Signs and symptoms of overexposure: Liquid is largely inert in contact with the human system. It may cause mild eye irritation upon eye contact or upon injection into the eye. Care should be used in using this material with any pressurized systems. Methyl Paraben can cause sensitization reactions and dermatitis in sensitive individuals.
Medical conditions aggravated by exposure: Hyper sensitivity to the material.
Carcinogenicity: None reported by OSHA, IARC or NTP.
9. SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
Respiratory Protection: None required.
Ventilation: Ventilation should be used to maintain exposure below the PEL and TLV.
Protective Gloves: Not required, rubber or vinyl gloves can be used if employees experience skin irritation. Polyvinylchloride. Silver Shield®. 4H®.
Eye Protection: Safety goggles should be worn when splash hazards are present.
Note: These precautions are for room temperature handling. Use at elevated temperature or aerosol/spray applications may require added precautions. For further information regarding aerosol inhalation toxicity, please refer to the guidance document regarding the use of silicone-based materials in aerosol applications that has been developed by the silicone industry (www.SEHSC.com).
10. SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Handling and Storage: Keep from freezing. This material should be handled and stored per label and other instructions to ensure product integrity. Do not take internally.
Other precautions: Exercise care in using this material with any pressurized systems offering potential for eye or skin injection. Avoid spills on hard surfaces, spilled material, even in small quantities, may present a slip hazard.
11. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Containment/clean up: Clean up remaining materials with a suitable absorbent. Clean area as appropriate since spilled materials, even in small quantities, may present a slip hazard. Final cleaning may require use of steam, solvents or detergents. Dispose of saturated absorbent or cleaning materials appropriately, since spontaneous heating may occur. You will need to determine which federal, state and local laws and regulations are applicable. Section 12 of this MSDS provides information regarding certain federal and state requirements. See section 9 for personal protective equipment for spills.
12. HANDLING AND STORAGE
Protect from freezing. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid eye contact. Keep container closed. Internal consumption not recommended. Avoid spills on hard surfaces, spilled material, even in small quantities, may present a slip hazard.
Use reasonable care and store away from oxidizing materials.
